Another beautiful sunny day on Oahu, what to do? How about an easy hike? Have you ever been to the Makapu’u Lighthouse? My favorite drive on Oahu is around Makapu’u and Sandy’s Beach. I keep seeing the lighthouse but haven’t ever hiked up the trail. Today was a perfect day.
Follow me on my weekend adventure for some Waikiki fun playing tourist, it reminded me why the world loves Hawaii so much.
Waikiki is magic! A born and raised Hawaii Girl, I will be the first to admit, I never really spent a lot of time in Waikiki. Most kama’ainas (locals) usually think its just for tourists or someplace you would go for a special occasion. Recently, I was lucky to be invited to the very chic boutique Waikiki Parc Hotel.
Hawaii Beaches are the most beautiful in the world. The water is warm and crystal clear aqua blue. Most have soft white sand, but there are a few black sand beaches hidden throughout the island chain.
My favorite is Lanikai Beach. I love how the water is so clear and soft. There aren’t any waves which make it perfect for swimming.
All of Hawaii celebrates Prince Kuhio Day on March 26th with the annual parade through Waikiki ending at Kapiolani Park where Hawaiian style entertainment and delicious food and so much cultural and fun activities celebrating Hawaii and everything Prince Kuhio loved. Kuhio Day is an official state holiday in the Island of Hawaii. As with any holiday, expect several government and local businesses and services to either be closed or operate with limited hours.
Guava French Toast is an island favorite. I love Portuguese Sweet Bread! Soft, fluffy, and hint of sweet. Great for sandwiches or on the side of a hearty bowl of soup or Hawaiian-style Beef Stew. Its also perfect for making French Toast.
Hawaii skies lit up with lightning as rain poured down and thunder boomed across the island. Winter storms bring much needed rain to our islands. This storm was welcome as the island was suffering under a blanket of vog (like smog, but comes from the volcano).
Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii was honored to host the NFL’s AFC-NFC Pro Bowl 2011. Hawaii has been home to the Pro Bowl from 1980-2009. All of Hawaii missed hosting the Pro Bowl last year to Miami, FL. We hope to be the official home of the Pro Bowl for years to come.
A Moment of Zen…
The Portuguese Man O’ War (Physalia physalis), blah blah blah…Wikipedia has a very serious and boring definition.
They are blue bubbles floating on the surface of the water. Usually very small. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blue bubble bigger than my fist ever. The bubble isn’t the dangerous part its the stinging tentacle that hangs below the bubble which is also blue, same color as the water, and sometimes several feet long. This means you usually don’t see what stung you until its way too late.
